A former shoe repair man sexually abused a young girl for almost six years.

Charles Clark, 81, of Coldside, Dundee, began attacking the child when she was ten.

Clark appeared at the High Court in Glasgow having been convicted of four charges, including making the child watch pornographic videos and two further charges of possessing indecent images of children.

Judge Lord Ericht said Clark's crimes, which occurred in Dundee and Arbroath, Angus, between 1995 and 2001, had "serious consequences" for the victim.

He was jailed for three years and also placed on the sex offenders list indefinitely.

A relative of the victim reportedly said after Clark's trial earlier this year that the pensioner should "die in jail" for his "disgusting" crimes.

Lorraine Glancy, defending, said Clark had once been well-regarded having owned a the "popular" McLeod's Shoe Repairs in Dundee.

Glancy added: "These convictions have brought upon him disgrace and an inevitable custodial term.

"He will spend his final years away from the local community.

"He does not envisage ever returning to Dundee where he was a fairly well known figure. He would not wish to return as a well known sex offender."
