Victims of the baby ashes scandal in Aberdeen have shared £101,000 in compensation.

At least 33 out of more than 200 claims have been settled by the city council so far.

Ten claims have been rejected, although the local authority would not say why.

Victims have been barred from discussing details under a strict confidentiality agreement.

Children were secretly cremated alongside unrelated adults for years at Aberdeen Crematorium, a practice branded "unethical and abhorrent".

An inquiry led by Dame Elish Angiolini examined 200 cases at 14 Scottish crematoriums.

She said the "most serious issues" involved Aberdeen Crematorium and branded the actions of staff "deeply disturbing".

The investigation was prompted by the revelation in 2013 that staff at Mortonhall Crematorium in Edinburgh had secretly been burying the ashes of babies.
