Police are hunting a gang of teenagers who threw a lit firework into the back of a taxi.

The taxi driver was on Craigmore Street in Kirkton, Dundee,  when the group approached and asked the price of a fare.

One of the group then threw the firework in the back of the car.

The taxi driver was unhurt and no significant damage was caused to his vehicle.

Police Scotland are investigating the "act of reckless conduct", which took place at around 8.10pm on Monday.

Officers are keen to trace the four teenagers who are described as being aged between 15 and 18.

At the time of the incident they were wearing black-hooded tops and jogging bottoms.

A police spokesman said: "Those who were involved in this dangerous and reckless activity may have viewed it as a bit of harmless fun but they should consider the potential consequences of their actions.

"Anybody thinking of using fireworks should be aware it is an offence to throw, cast or fire any firework in or into a public place.

"Fortunately no one has been injured but the outcome could have been far worse."
