A man has been detained after the death of a 20-year-old woman discovered in a flat in Aberdeen.

Police were called at around 7.40am on Friday to reports of concerns for a woman at a block of flats on Rosemount Viaduct

The body of a 20-year-old woman was discovered inside and a man, 32, was subsequently detained.

Detective chief inspector Iain Smith, from the major investigation team, said: "I can confirm that the death is being treated as suspicious, and a 32-year-old man is currently detained and assisting the major investigation team with its enquiries.

"I am not able to discuss or speculate on the details of an ongoing investigation, however, I must stress that we are content that this has been a contained and isolated incident.

"Our thoughts at this tragic time are with the family and friends of the young woman involved."

The victim is still to be formally identified and police said it will continue making enquiries in the area.
