A man has been charged after police seized drugs worth £170,000 in Aberdeen.

Detectives searched a flat on Summerfield Place on Wednesday afternoon in an "intelligence-led operation".

Crack cocaine and heroin were seized at the property and police later found a 51-year-old man who was charged with drug offences.

The man is expected to appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on Thursday.

Detective inspector Allen Shaw said: "This is a significant seizure of controlled drugs that would have been bound for the streets of the north east and in particular the most vulnerable people who live in them.

"I cannot stress enough the devastating effects illegal substances can have on our communities which is why targeted proactive action is carried out on a daily basis."

He continued: "Drugs worth almost £2.5m were seized in Aberdeen in just one year thanks to this action, with 252 drugs search warrants executed, an average of 21 per month.

"We will continue to act on all intelligence received and urge the public to continue to help us by reporting your concerns through 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 to remain anonymous."
