A woman who died after a fire at a sheltered housing complex in Aberdeenshire has been named.

Elsie Riddell, 86, died of her injuries in hospital after the blaze at Nether Davah House on Golf Crescent in Aberdeenshire.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 5.35pm on Wednesday and quickly extinguished the fire, which was contained to one flat.

Ms Riddell was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment where she later died.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is still ongoing but it is not considered suspicious.

Detective inspector Stewart Drummond said: "An investigation into the cause of the fire is still ongoing, however there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.

"A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal in due course.

"Our thoughts are with Elsie's family at this very sad time."
