Search resumes for kayaker reported in distress off coast
Aberdeenshire coastguard received a report of someone in difficulty on Saturday.
The search for a kayaker who was reported to be in difficulty off the coast of Aberdeenshire has resumed.
Coastguard teams in Banff received a distress call saying someone was in difficulty off the Links beach at around 4pm on Saturday.
The person was believed to be a kayaker in distress, and police and the coastguard launched a major search of the area.
A search and rescue helicopter from Inverness, coastguard teams from Banff and Portsoy and three RNLI lifeboats from Macduff, Buckie and Fraserburgh were all involved in the "thorough and extensive" operation which lasted hours on Saturday
On Sunday a fresh but scaled-down search began, with the Macduff lifeboat launched just after 10am to carry out a shoreline search.
Banff and Portsoy coastguard teams also set out to search the areas covered on Saturday night in daylight.
STV News understands that no one has been officially reported missing.
