Two climbers have been rescued from the summit of Ben Nevis after getting stuck on the mountain.

The weather was so poor a coastguard helicopter was forced to retreat and drop 17 members of Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team further down the slope.

They trekked to the summit by foot and retrieved both of the climbers, who were stuck on a crag at Tower Ridge.

They are not believed to have been harmed and the rescuers returned to base at around 4am on Tuesday.

A spokesman for LMRT said: "This was a complicated rescue made more difficult due to the altitude the climbers were at and time of day."
