An alleged drink-driver suffered serious injuries after smashing a car into a barrier on a dual carriageway.

The crash happened on the A96 near Blackburn in Aberdeenshire at 6.50pm on Monday.

Officers said the 51-year-old woman failed a breath test before she was taken to hospital with fractures.

The road was blocked while the white Ford Fiesta was recovered.

The woman was due to be held in custody.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "The 51-year-old female driver of the white Ford Fiesta involved, which had been travelling southbound, was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with serious injuries."
