A child has been injured after part of a wall collapsed on him at a primary school.

Emergency services were called to St Joseph's RC Primary School in Aberdeen at 9am on Tuesday.

An 11-year-old boy has been taken to hospital after a section of rendering material fell on him in the playground.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

"The child's family are aware."

An investigation is under way involving Aberdeen City Council and the Health and Safety Executive.

A council spokesman said: "Aberdeen City Council is responding to an incident in which a pupil was injured by a section of rendering material which became detached from a wall at St Jospeh's RC School this morning.

"Our immediate priority is the well-being of the injured pupil and we are liaising with their family.

"The safety and well-being of all pupils, staff and visitors at Aberdeen's schools is a priority for the council and a comprehensive response to this incident is ongoing."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman added: "The Scottish Ambulance Service called us for assistance and said a wall had fallen on a child.

"The child wasn't physically trapped and we assisted with treatment."
