A search is under way for a missing hillwalker following a rescue operation on Ben Nevis.

Two men were rescued near the summit of the UK's highest mountain at around 6pm on Sunday.

However, a third member of their party is currently unaccounted for.

The group had reported they were in difficulty earlier in the afternoon.

Blizzard conditions and a risk of avalanches meant Lochaber Mountain Rescue had to cease the search overnight.

It is hoped searches for the missing man will resume on Monday morning, depending on weather conditions.

Inspector Isla Campbell said: "We would urge any climbers or walkers who were on Ben Nevis on Sunday to report anything they believe may be of assistance to us as soon as possible.

"The conditions on Ben Nevis are currently very challenging and I would urge any walkers or climbers planning a trip to the area to take this into account.

"Any information, no matter how minor it may seem, can be useful and it can be passed to us in Fort William by calling 101, using reference NP662/18."
