A mountain rescue team has been called to the aid of three workmen who became trapped after getting stuck in the snow.

The Cairngorm Mountain Rescue team was sent out to help the workers at Glen Doe, near Fort Augustus, at around 2pm on Thursday afternoon.

It is believed the workers were based at the hydro-electric wind farm project.

The workers became stranded after high winds and snow swept the area.

The wintry weather also prevented the rescue helicopter assisting.

The Rescue Team said in a statement: "Cairngorms Mountain Rescue Team were called to assist three power workers who have become stranded in snow in Glen Doe above Fort Augustus.

"No aircraft is available due to weather conditions."

The rescue is still ongoing.
