Two Scottish teenagers have had the night of their lives after being plucked from the streets of Aberdeen to perform on stage with a chart topping rock band.

The college pals were busking outside the Bon Accord Shopping Centre when they were approached by Irish band The Script on Saturday morning and invited to perform with them on stage.

Shay Currie, 18, from Hazelhead and Chris van der Wal, 19, from Peterculter joined the band on stage to play guitar and percussion in front of thousands of fans at the AECC.

A bucket was passed around the 6,000 strong crowd who were asked to donate money to the pair as they joined in with The Man Who Can't Be Moved.

The Script frontman Danny O'Donoghue pledged to double the final amount that was raised.

Shay and Chris play in the same spot in Aberdeen City Centre every Saturday and were shocked when the We Cry singers showed up to watch.

The North-East Scotland College music students were then invited along to the venue initially under the impression they were there for a soundcheck.

But they were then asked to take part in rehearsal before being thrust on stage to join in with the real show as the band encouraged fans to throw coins into the bucket.

A total of £1,079.70 was raised by the crowd and doubled to £2,159.40 by the band.

During the gig, guitarist Mark Sheehan told the crowd: "The lads thought they were coming to do a soundcheck, you should have seen the look on their faces when they found out it would be for real."

The Script, who had a number 1 hit with their collaboration with Will I Am on Hall Of Fame, approached the pair as part of Random Act of Kindness day on Saturday.

Random Acts of Kindness Day is a day to celebrate and encourage random acts of kindness which takes place annually on February 17.
