Emergency services have been working overnight to keep control of three wildfires on the Outer Hebrides on Saturday night.

Firefighters were joined by the Coastguard and RNLI volunteers, and members of the public, to try and extinguish the flames which were being fanned across the island by strong winds.

Emergency services were reacing against the flames to make sure they didn't reach houses at Cuithir Barra.

A spokeswoman for the Scottish fire and rescue service said: "We attended three wildfires overnight in Barra.

"The fires were all in close proximity to one another.

"We received the reports of fires at 7.38pm, 11.15pm and 5.40am.

"Currently all three fires have been extinguished, but fire services will continue to check the sites through out the day to make sure they don't reignite."
