Dundee is giving out thousands of yellow sunglasses to celebrate the expected record number of visitors this summer.

Arrivals at Dundee Airport on Thursday witnessed the launch of the new tourism drive, Sunny Dundee.

The branded sunglasses will be given to visitors, locals and businesses, with an invitation to explore "Scotland's sunniest city" and share their photographs on social media using the #SunnyDundee.

Dundee is the only Scottish south-facing city, which means it regularly clocks up more hours of sunshine than any other.

With a packed calendar of sporting events, outdoor concerts, cultural exhibitions, degree shows and parades in the lead-up to the opening of V&A Dundee, the council are expecting a record number of visitors.

"This is a hugely exciting time for Dundee," said councillor John Alexander.

"It might be Scotland's sunniest city, but according to the world's media Dundee is definitely one the coolest place to be in 2018.

"The Wall Street Journal, Conde Nast Traveller, CNN, and Bloomberg are just some of the global names recommending a visit to Dundee this year."

Although the sunglasses are free, the campaign is hoping to support local cancer charity, Maggie's Dundee, by asking people to donate £1 per pair.

The sunglasses will be available from locations including The McManus, Dundee Contemporary Arts, the VisitScotland information centre and Dundee Airport.
