An osprey has been caught on film defending its nest from a pine marten in the Cairngorms.

At the RSPB Scotland's Loch Garten reserve, near Grantown, the female osprey, named EJ, was captured defending her eggs on Saturday morning.

EJ is on her 15th mating season at the reserve, and has previously been spotted defending her nest from the elements as well as other rival birds.

But a pine marten took its chance to try and snatch one of the two eggs EJ has been incubating.

Members of the weasel family, pine martens also feed on insects, berries and even small birds.

Luckily EJ managed to scare the pine marten off, and the eggs went unharmed.
