A child was left shaken after being approached by a hooded stranger, police said.

The youngster was on Whitehall Place in Insch, Aberdeenshire, around 4.15pm on Monday when the man approached him.

Police said the child was not injured but was "understandably shaken" by the incident.

Anyone with information is now urged to come forward.

Sergeant Sandra Crighton said: "We would like to trace a man in connection with our enquiries who is described as 5ft 10 tall and wearing black clothing and a hooded top with the hood up.

"We would also like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have seen the man or anything suspicious."

Police can be contacted on the non-emergency number 101.
