Around 50 firefighters are tackling a large gorse fire in Moray.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident near Buckie shortly after 4pm on Saturday.

Police have warned people to stay away from the area, near Buckpool Golf Course, and they have shut a stretch of the nearby A990 road.

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were alerted at 4.08pm on Saturday to reports of a fire in the open, near Buckie.

"Operations control mobilised a number of resources to the scene at Buckpool, where around 50 firefighters are currently tackling a large fire within a widespread area of gorse."

No casualties have been reported.

A picture posted on Twitter by the service showed large plumes of smoke rising into the air.

The incident comes as a wildfire warning remains in place across Scotland until Monday.

Douglas Ross, Conservative MP for Moray, tweeted: "Once again we are indebted to the @fire--scot in Moray for their efforts tackling another gorse fire."

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "The A990 Between Portgordon and Buckie is currently closed due to a Gorse fire at Buckpool Golf Course.

"The Scottish Fire Service and Police Scotland are in attendance. The public are requested to avoid the area."
