A man has been airlifted to hospital after a crash between his motorcycle and a car in Aberdeenshire.

The collision happened at around 11.25am on Sunday on the A947 southbound between Oldmeldrum and Newmachar.

The male biker was transported by ambulance helicopter to hospital in Aberdeen after suffering a suspected spinal injury.

It is understood no one else suffered serious injuries in the crash.

Police closed off the road in order to investigate the incident.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: "We were called around 11.25am on Sunday to a report of a crash on the A947 southbound between Oldmeldrum and Newmachar.

"One casualty was airlifted to hospital in Aberdeen."
