A match between Cove Rangers and Aberdeen has been abandoned after a player was seriously injured on the pitch.

Cove midfielder Jordon Brown went down as he clashed heads with another player going for an aerial ball.

The friendly game at the Balmoral Stadium was called off following the incident early in the second half.

Paramedics were called on to the pitch and Brown, a former player for Peterhead and Aberdeen, was taken into an ambulance.

He is understood to have been communicating with paramedics as he was taken to hospital.

Aberdeen FC posted a message on Twitter following the incident.

The team said: "Due to a serious injury to Cove Rangers player Jordon Brown, today's match has been abandoned.

"The thoughts of everyone at the club are with Jordon at this moment and we wish him a speedy recovery."

Cove Rangers tweeted: "Player down is Jordan Brown, wishing him a speedy recovery."
