An abandoned dog has been found tied to a bush in hot weather without any water.

The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after the Staffie cross type dog was found in Stewart Park, Aberdeen by a member of the public on Thursday.

The SSPCA attended the park after being alerted to the find and the dog is now in the care of the charity's Aberdeenshire Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre where she has been named Naomi.

Inspector Fiona McKenzie said, "We cannot be sure how long Naomi was tied up for, but in this extremely hot weather it wouldn't have taken long for her to dehydrate.

"We're hopeful that someone will recognise her and contact us as we are keen to identify her owner and establish how she came to be there."

Abandoning and causing an animal unnecessary suffering animal is an offence under the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006 and anyone found guilty of doing so can expect to be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period or life.

Anyone with information is being urged to contact the Scottish SPCA Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.
