One of the five victims of Thursday night's horror crash on the A96 near Moray has been named locally.

Evalyn Collie from Aberchirder was reportedly driving home from a line-dancing event when the 4x4 car she was in collided with a minibus.

The 69-year-old ran a day centre for dementia sufferers in Inverurie for more than 20 years before she retired in 2015.

She had travelled to the event with a group of friends, one of whom is said to be seriously injured.

A four-year boy was also among the five people killed in the crash between the white Fiat Talento minibus, which was carrying Italian tourists, at around midnight on Thursday.

Two women, aged 69 and 70, and a 63-year-old man all died from injuries suffered in the crash.

A 39-year-old female sustained serious injuries and is being treated at Dr Grays.

A man, woman and three-year-old boy, who were also in the minibus, were taken to hospital with a variety of injuries.

The Scottish Ambulance Service sent seven ambulances to the scene along with a special response team.

They were accompanied by a coastguard rescue helicopter, which flew one patient to hospital.

Superintendent Louise Blakelock said: "The dreadful scene faced by the emergency responders was both distressing and extremely challenging for everyone involved.

"Our thoughts are with everyone who has been involved or affected."
