Children as young as seven have been left traumatised after "terrifying scenes" at a Little Mix concert in Aberdeen.

Parents claim that thousands of fans were penned in after the gig with others forced to walk miles in the rain with their young sons and daughters amid chaotic scenes at the AECC.

In several clips and pictures posted online metal fences can be seen being ripped from the ground as the thousands of fans departed the venue.

Other images show youngsters risking injury by climbing over and under the barriers.

Over 15,000 had squeezed into the venue on Exhibition Avenue near the Bridge of Don to catch a glimpse of the popular girl band singing hits including Shout Out To My Ex and Black Magic.

Mark Broadstock, who took his seven-year-old son to the gig called the situation a "joke" considering the "ongoing security threat in the UK".

He said: "Terrible health and safety issues at the @LittleMix concert in Aberdeen."

In a Tweet to @showsecuk he continued: "You are responsible for the safety of thousands of young children and you let them all down this evening. Poor & disappointing to say the least.

"Terrifying scenes, zero security or police presence.

"Especially considering the ongoing security threat in the UK.

"My Seven-year-old son was shook up."

Another angry parent who took her two daughters to see the band fronted by singer Perrie Edwards said: "This evening ended terribly after a fabulous #littlemix concert @AECC_Aberdeen #aecc absolutely terrifying scenes.

"My girls are traumatised following the complete lack of crowd control & basic human compassion"

In a statement the venue apologised and for what they say was an isolated incident.

The AECC said: "Following on from last night's fantastic Little Mix concert at AECC, we can confirm that an incident occurred where a group of people tried to leave the outdoor arena by moving the security fence line.

"This undoubtedly caused some alarm and distress for other concert goers however the incident was dealt with swiftly by a security and venue response team and resolved by opening up a further egress point.

"This cleared very quickly without incident and the vast majority of the public were unaware of any problems.

"As per the event plan, there were 172 security personnel on site last night, in addition, there were a number of paramedics, GP's, first aid staff and Police Scotland working at the event.

"There were no injuries and no calls for police or further interventions as a result of this isolated incident.

"The show finished at 9.55pm and the outdoor area was cleared of all 15,000 fans by 10.50pm.

"The Park& Ride was clear at 11.15pm and all other car parks on site were clear by 11.48pm.

"Having assessed the photos paralleled with the various information including our internal debrief with all parties working at the event, it seems at face value that this was an isolated momentary incident mainly generated out of impatience to escape the inclement weather.

"We apologise to those affected and want to reassure people that In advance of the show the exit strategy was planned and prepared in collaboration with all blue light services, Aberdeen City Council Environmental Heath Officers and Showsec Security who attended pre show walk rounds and planning meetings covering the event safety."
