A man has died after a one-car smash on a road in Aberdeenshire.

The 53-year-old was driving along the A947 between King Edward church and Mountbletton at around 8.30pm on Sunday when the collision took place.

It is understood his vehicle left the road and crashed into a tree.

No one else was involved in the collision but the driver died of his injuries.

Police confirmed on Sunday night they were attending the incident.

Firefighters, paramedics and a helimed air ambulance were also all at the scene.

Officers said the road was closed for investigation and urged the public to avoid the area.
