A man who died on board a fishing boat docked at Fraserburgh harbour has been named.

Emergency services were called to the Sunbeam at 2pm on Tuesday after reports of a number of men falling ill.

William Ironside, 52, from Fraserburgh, was pronounced dead on board while another four men were taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

Following treatment, all four have now been released.

Detective inspector Stewart Drummond from Police Scotland said: "Our thoughts continue to be with Mr Ironside's family at what will be a very difficult and sad time. They have asked that their privacy is respected."

He added: "We are continuing to carry out enquiries in conjunction with other independent agencies including the Maritime and Coastguard Agency and also the Marine Accident Investigation Branch.

"A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal in due course as is the case with all sudden deaths."

A spokesperson on behalf of Sunbeam Fishing Limited, the owners of the Sunbeam, said: "Our thoughts are very much with the family of our shipmate and friend who tragically has been lost.

"At this extremely sad time and while the investigation continues it would not be appropriate for us to comment further except to say that we are indebted to the emergency services for the exceptional assistance provided by them".
