An Aberdeen dog owner's emotional Facebook video after his five-month old puppy died from eating yellow plums has been shared nearly 2000 times.

Campbell Scott, who runs a local surf school, posted the clip on its social media page after his beloved flat-coated retriever Fern passed away.

In it, he issues a heartfelt warning to other dog owners from the tree where Fern had eaten the small yellow fruits.

Initially describing the fruits as peaches in the video, Mr Scott says he has since learned they are in fact a type of plum.

He believes it was the stones within them which caused Fern to go into toxic shock, leading to the pet's death.

Mr Scott is urging people to pass on the information.

In the video, he said: "On Thursday, a wee dog I had called Fern, five and a half months old, a little topper, fell literally on her face in the house and she lost her legs and was all over the place.

"We couldn't work it out. That was about ten o' clock at night.

"We eventually sprinted to the vet's on the other side of town and she got shock, toxic shock, and she passed away in under an hour.

"So that was tough. I'm sorry, this is going to be a raw video, but I want it to be.

"It will help me out and it will pass on information."

He added: "We've found out what's happened and I want you all to let people know because I didn't know... let's get it all shared all over the place."

Mr Scott went on to explain he was recording the video from a local dog park underneath the yellow plum tree, showing the fruits all over the ground.

He continued: "My wee dog ate some of those, ate quite a lot of them. We didn't know.

"That's what did it. That thing that we can eat, right there.

"That's the thing that killed our dog and I didn't know anything about that, and I'm gutted, obviously."

Mr Scott is asking people to share the video and information using the hashtag #fernhug.
