A man has been pulled from the water after plunging into a harbour.

The alert was raised at Macduff Harbour in Aberdeenshire shortly after 1.15am on Tuesday.

The man was thrown a life ring by a watchman before lifeboat crews pulled him to safety.

He was then assessed by paramedics but the extent of his injuries aren't known.

A Macduff Lifeboat spokesman said: "We got the casualty onboard our lifeboat and transported him a short distance to the fish market steps where he was assisted ashore by our crew members and passed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.

"Members of HM Coastguard Moray and North East Police Division also attended the incident."
