An escaped piglet was rescued from the side of a busy road.

The piglet, now named Branston Piggles, was found wandering near the A96 at Elgin by police in the early hours of Monday morning.

He was taken back to the station while efforts were made to trace where he had escaped from, but no farm was able to claim him because he was tagless.

He has now been adopted locally and is settling in to his new home "nicely".

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: "It's not just crime we deal with.

"This poor piglet was found wandering lost and tagless near the A96.

"With no tag, no farm was able to claim him - so instead Branston Piggles had a cosy day at the station."

He added: "He has since been adopted locally and is settling into his new home nicely.

"No day is quite the same in Police Scotland!"
