A pedestrian has been seriously injured after being hit by a car.

The incident happened on the High Street in Banchory, Aberdeenshire, at 5pm on Tuesday.

A 51-year-old woman was crossing the road when she was struck by a black Nissan Qashqai.

She was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary in a serious condition.

The occupants of the Nissan were uninjured.

Sergeant Rob Warnock said: "Enquiries into the circumstances of the incident are at an early stage and I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or saw the black Nissan Qashqai or the female pedestrian prior to the incident to contact Police Scotland on 101."
