Patients and staff have been evacuated after a fire broke out in the roof of a Tayside hospital.

The fire service were alerted to the blaze at around 11.30am on Monday after a fire broke out in a roof space in one of the blocks of the building.

The Scottish Fire Service said seven appliances are in attendance at Stracathro Hospital in Angus with 35 firefighters on the scene.

A height vehicle from Dundee is also on the scene.

A spokeswoman said: "The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted at 11.31am on Monday, October 29 to reports of a fire at Stracathro Hospital in Angus.

"Operations Control mobilised a number of fire engines to the scene where firefighters are currently tackling a fire confined in the roof space of a single storey building.

"There are no casualties.

"Crews will remain on scene until the area is made safe."

NHS Tayside added: "All patients and staff have been safely evacuated from the affected area."
