A sex attacker who raped a woman while she was sleeping has been jailed.

Greg Fraser, 22, was sentenced to 27 months in prison for raping his victim at a flat in Dundee in October 2017.

The woman only realised Fraser had sex with her after she woke up.

Fraser pleaded guilty to raping the woman at the High Court in Glasgow.

Judge Lady Stacey told him: "The court has to take this very seriously. Under the law of Scotland to do what you did is rape - a most serious offence. However I accept at the time you were naïve and immature."

She said that, but for his early guilty plea, she would have jailed him for three years.

Prosecutor Allan Nicol told how Fraser, from Dundee, had been with the girl at the flat. He pestered her for sex that night, but she refused.

The court heard the woman ended up falling asleep watching television. When she later awakened, Fraser was sitting near her.

Mr Nicol: "He was smoking a cigarette. He said he had tried to wake her up."

The woman was then shocked to discover Fraser had sex with her while she was sleeping. The victim later told her mum what had gone on.

She was initially reluctant to go to police, but went onto report her attacker last year.

Fraser was placed on the sex offenders register.
