A 29-year-old man has died after a crash on a major north-east road that also left two others seriously injured.

Shane Reginald Drury from Elgin died in hospital after the collision involving his white Peugeot 208 car and a white Fiat Scudo van.

Emergency services attended the scene at around 6pm on Tuesday and he was taken to Dr Gray's hospital in Elgin where he later died.

The 47-year-old man who was driving the van suffered serious injuries and was taken by air ambulance to Raigmore Hospital, Inverness.

And a 52 year old man, who was the front seat passenger in the van, also suffered serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to Dr Gray's Hospital, Elgin.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the crash that took place on the A96 Elgin to Lhanbryde road near Waulkmill.

The road was closed for over seven hours while officers carried out their investigations.

"We have spoken to a number of witnesses but would like to hear from anyone who saw the collision, or saw either vehicle beforehand, and has not yet spoken to us, to please get in touch by calling 101."
