A woman has been charged with wasting police time after an investigation into a robbery in Moray.

The 44-year-old woman has also been charged with an alleged fraudulent scheme.

The charges come after officers investigating reports of the robbery in December last year concluded that no crime was committed.

Officers had been probing reports that a low four-figure sum of money was taken from a woman at a property in the Keith Road area of Burghead on Thursday December 27.

She will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal and is expected to appear at Elgin Sheriff Court at a later date.

Detective Sergeant Andrew Wilson said: "A thorough investigation was carried out and it has been established that no crime was committed in relation to the robbery.

"We are grateful to the community for its support while inquiries were carried out."
