Repairs have been carried out overnight on a sinkhole which appeared underneath a railway track.

Network Rail said the line passing through Leuchars in Fife would open as planned on Tuesday morning.

The metre-deep sinkhole was filled with stones, with engineers earlier having said three tonnes would be needed for the repair.

Network Rail tweeted: "We've completed repairs to the track at Leuchars, and the line will open as planned this morning. Thanks for your patience."

The sinkhole was spotted on Monday morning, causing some rail services to be suspended.

ScotRail, LNER and CrossCountry services were affected, as was the Caledonian Sleeper.
