SNP candidate 'will not let referendum dominate by-election campaign'
Former north-east MSP Mark McDonald has been selected by the SNP to run for the seat.
The SNP’s candidate for the Aberdeen Donside by-election has said he will fight on local issues and not let the referendum dominate the campaign.
Former north-east MSP Mark McDonald has been selected by the party to run for the seat which was left vacant following the death of Brian Adam last month following a battle with cancer.
But speaking to STV political correspondent Claire Stewart he admitted he did not know how hard the city's college had been hit by budget cuts.
He said school closure proposals from the local council would be a “key battle ground”.
Mr McDonald said he had “campaigned hard” for Aberdeen during his time as an MSP in the past.
