A Scottish MP is under investigation by the parliamentary standards commissioner.

Phil Boswell, the SNP MP for Coatbridge, Chryston and Bellshill, will be probed over claims he breached rules about the declaration of company directorships.

A complaint was reportedly made alleging that Mr Boswell had failed to record his directorship of Boswell and Johnston Ltd.

If commissioner Kathryn Hudson finds Mr Boswell broke the rules, his case could be passed to the House of Commons committee on standards for further investigation.

MPs would then decide what sanction, if any, the politician would face.

Mr Boswell previously admitted benefiting from a tax avoidance scheme despite campaigning against them in parliament.

The SNP did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
