Glasgow East MP Natalie McGarry is facing a second police investigation into alleged financial discrepancies.

Police have received a report from the SNP's Glasgow regional association over funds which are said to be missing from the organisation's accounts.

The MP withdrew from the SNP whip last year as an investigation was launched into alleged missing money at the Women for Independence group, which she helped found.

She has denied any wrongdoing in relation to both investigations.

On Tuesday, Police Scotland confirmed they had received a new report and were conducting enquiries.

Ms McGarry was convener of the SNP's Glasgow regional association between 2011 and 2015.

A spokesman for Ms McGarry said: "Police Scotland have not been in contact with Ms McGarry in relation to recent media reports.

"Ms McGarry is clear that no wrongdoing has been committed on her part and she will fully cooperate with Police Scotland in their inquiries."

The MP's solicitor Aamer Anwar said: "I understand that there is a police inquiry but no criminality has been established. Therefore it would be inappropriate to comment further.

"Ms McGarry will co-operate with any inquiry."

An SNP spokesman said: "It would be inappropriate to comment while these matters are being considered."
