MSPs will benefit from a pay rise of almost £1100 next year.

The salaries of Holyrood's 129 members will rise by £1092, taking their total to £61,777.

The rise is equivalent to a 1.8%, the same as public-sector workers will enjoy.

The First Minister's salary entitlement will push through the £150,000 mark for the first time since devolution to £151,269 a year, while cabinet members' pay packets would be bolstered to £108,203.

The Scottish Government confirmed to STV News the First Minister and her cabinet will not accept the pay rises, however, with salaries remaining frozen at 2008/2009 levels.

Jackson Carlaw, a Conservative MSP and a member of the Scottish Parliament's corporate body, confirmed the pay rise to the finance committee on Wednesday.

He said: "The Scottish Parliamentary salaries scheme now directly links MSPs' salaries to public-sector pay rises in Scotland using the annual survey of hours and earnings published by the Office for National Statistics.

"Using this index, I can confirm that an increase of 1.8% will be applied in April 2017."

MSPs used to be paid 87.5% of a MPs wage. This linked scheme was scrapped in 2015 after MPs were in line to benefit from a 9% pay rise.

Holyrood's politicians thought the pay rise was too large.
