The finance secretary will answer questions sent by the public from Twitter later on Monday.

Derek Mackay is making his latest appearance before the finance committee as he looks to pass his first budget since being appointed in May.

The committee asked the public to send in questions for Mackay via the hashtag '#AskCabSec'.

Members of the committee will field the questions to him. Any questions not put to Mackay will be published online and the Scottish Government will be invited to provide a written response to them.

The questions will focus on tax with income tax, land and building transaction tax, business rates and council tax featuring.

The committee will also livestream his appearance on Facebook at 4pm.

At his last appearance at the committee Mackay said he would use new borrowing powers at his disposal "to the max" in the coming years.

Following the 2016 Scottish Parliament election the SNP were reduced from a majority to a minority government.

This means the party needs to find support from at least one other party for the budget to pass.

The SNP will also have enough votes for the budget to pass if one party chooses to abstain from the vote.
