The Prime Minister is steering the UK into a "little Britain Brexit", SNP Westminster leader Angus Robertson has said.

Robertson clashed with Theresa May in the House of Commons just a day after she revealed her vision of life in the UK after Brexit.

The Prime Minister intends to leave the European single market, something the SNP has warned will lead to a loss of jobs.

In December, the Scottish Government tabled proposals to Downing Street to allow Scotland to remain inside the single market even if the rest of the UK leaves.

Robertson asked May if she would maintain her promise to treat Scotland as an "equal partner" in the negotiations.

He said: "Shortly after the Prime Minister confirmed that she wants to take the UK out of the single European market, the Scottish Parliament voted by a large, cross-party majority to remain in the single European market, just as a large majority of people in Scotland voted to remain in the European Union.

"The Prime Minister has said that Scotland is an equal partner in the United Kingdom.

"Does she still believe this is true or is she just stringing the people of Scotland along?"

May told Robertson to look at her speech on Tuesday in which she recommitted to look at the Scottish Government's proposals.

Both governments will meet at the joint ministerial committee meeting on the Brexit negotiations in London on Thursday.

The SNP MP responded to the Prime Minister by asking her if 80,000 jobs, the top range of the Fraser of Allander Institute's forecast for job losses, was: "A price worth paying for her little Britain Brexit?"

In response, the Prime Minister said the biggest threat to Scottish economic prosperity was independence.

May said: "We will be working to ensure we get the best possible deal in terms of access to the single market and continuing to cooperate in partnership with the remaining 27 member states of the European Union.

"But you once again talk about the possibility of negative impact on Scotland if Scotland were not part of the single market.

"Your party is dedicated to taking Scotland out of the single market by taking it out of the United Kingdom."
