Alex Neil MSP has been treated for a blocked artery, a spokesman for the politician said.

The Holyrood veteran, who is 65, had been due to attend a meeting when he took unwell.

He was rushed to hospital where he received treatment.

A spokesman said: "Alex Neil was due to attend a meeting in parliament this afternoon when he took unwell.

"He is now recovering in hospital following a successful operation to unblock an artery.

"Alex would like to thank staff in the Scottish Parliament for their assistance, the team at NHS Lothian for their swift response and effective attention, and everyone who has been in touch to offer their kind wishes."
