STV has postponed its Scottish leaders' debate in light of the terror attack in Manchester.

The leaders of the main Scottish political parties were due to take part in the event ahead of the general election on Wednesday night.

The broadcaster has confirmed the debate had been postponed following the explosion at Manchester Arena, during which at least 22 people were killed and 59 others were injured.

STV said: "In light of events in Manchester and the suspension of general election campaigning, STV has taken the decision to postpone its Scottish party leaders debate planned for Wednesday evening."

Political campaigning for the general election had been suspended on Tuesday across the country in the wake of the atrocity.

Prime Minister Theresa May has chaired an emergency meeting of the Cabinet Office Briefing Rooms (Cobra) in response to the attack.

The Scottish Government's resilience committee is also meeting on Tuesday to discuss the implications for Scotland.

STV's debate was due to feature the SNP's Nicola Sturgeon, Ruth Davidson of the Scottish Conservatives, Scottish Labour's Kezia Dugdale and Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie.
