Scotland's newest MSP has been sworn in at the Scottish Parliament.

Conservative Michelle Ballantyne takes over from party colleague Rachael Hamilton, who resigned earlier this month to stand for a Holyrood constituency seat.

Hamilton was elected in 2016 as a list MSP for the South Scotland region but stood down to fight the Ettrick, Roxburgh and Berwickshire by-election in the Borders.

The seat had been vacated by Tory colleague John Lamont, who resigned to contest the Westminster Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk constituency in the general election on June 8.

Selkirkshire councillor Ballantyne was next in line for Hamilton's list seat in the South Scotland region.

She took the oath of allegiance in the chamber on Tuesday.

The Ettrick, Roxburgh and Berwickshire by-election for Holyrood will be held on the same day as the general election.
