Scottish Labour has misspelled its founding leader's name in an embarrassing conference gaffe.

Legendary Scottish socialist Keir Hardie became the first Labour leader in 1906 and an annual award ceremony to celebrate party figures for their work had been named in his honour.

Scottish Labour leader Richard Leonard presented the awards on stage beside the party's general secretary Brian Roy on Friday.

However, both were unaware that the large conference screen behind them had his name misspelled as "Keir Hardy".

The unfortunate typo was quickly fixed some minutes later after party bosses spotted the mistake.

The mishap was soon picked up on social media, with the First Minister tweeting "OMG!" after she seen a picture of the gaffe.

SNP MSP George Adam said: "Richard Leonard must be raging-it's absolutely humiliating that his own party doesn't seem to know who their own founder and Richard Leonard's favourite person from all of history ever is.

"This is typically shambolic from Scottish Labour-roll on the rest of conference."
