Donald Trump has played a round of golf at his course in Ayrshire, as thousands protested his visit around Scotland.

The US President and First Lady arrived at the Turnberry golf resort on Friday and are expected to stay until Sunday.

Campaigners shouted at him from the beach as he and his son Eric played, while a major demonstration took place in Edinburgh.

On Saturday morning, the President posted that the course was "incredible" and that he was in Scotland for "two days of meetings, calls and hopefully, some golf."

Minutes later he Tweeted attacking the Obama administration and questioned the role of the "Deep State".

His Tweet said: "I have arrived in Scotland and will be at Trump Turnberry for two days of meetings, calls and hopefully, some golf - my primary form of exercise!

"The weather is beautiful, and this place is incredible! Tomorrow I go to Helsinki for a Monday meeting with Vladimir Putin."

He later posted a tweet referring to indictments issued against 12 Russian intelligence agents accusing them of hacking the Democratic party's email servers.

He said: "The stories you heard about the 12 Russians yesterday took place during the Obama Administration, not the Trump Administration.

"Why didn't they do something about it, especially when it was reported that President Obama was informed by the FBI in September, before the Election?"

He continued: "Where is the DNC Server, and why didn't the FBI take possession of it? Deep State?"

Police said around 9000 people took part in a national demonstration marching from the Scottish Parliament to the Meadows on Saturday.

Giant balloons depicting Trump as a baby were raised at the event.

A further 2000 people protested in Glasgow and 250 did so in Dundee.

There were no arrests at any of the protests, however police are investigating after a motorised paraglider was flown into the air exclusion zone over Turnberry on Friday.

Greenpeace organised the demonstration, which saw the paraglider trail a banner reading "Trump, well below par."

Trump's organisation purchased the Turnberry resort in 2014.
