Anas Sarwar has been racially abused in Glasgow as he was taking part in an interview on racism and Islamophobia.

The Scottish Labour MSP was standing near the River Clyde discussing the issues when a passer-by shouted "P**i b*****d" in his face.

Sarwar, who was a contender for the party's leadership last year, says he has "not experienced such blatant in-your-face racism like that in years."

Revealing the incident on social-media he tweeted: "Just had someone should "P**i b*****d" in my face whilst doing an interview on (ironically) racism and Islamophobia standing by the Clyde.

"What's going on in the world?"

The 35-year-old Glasgow MSP reported the abuse to police who are now investigating.

A spokeswoman said: "The incident has now been reported to police and enquiries are ongoing."
