Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt has hinted in an interview with ITV News that Britain might be prepared to consider accepting even more EU rules than previously suggested after Brexit.

These could cover environmental issues like air quality or clean water.

Speaking to ITV News Political Editor Robert Peston in an exclusive interview in the Netherlands, he said: "We totally understand the need to have a level playing field in any free trade agreement.

"We have to see what they offer."

In a ranging interview, Mr Hunt also said a no-deal Brexit would be a "geo-strategic mistake" which Britain would "regret for generations".

He also said a messy divorce from the EU would change British attitudes towards Europe.
