Homelessness charity Shelter Scotland has laid bare the scale of the problem in the country.

A new report, published on Thursday, indicated that 43,000 people, including children, became homeless in Scotland during 2017.

34,972 - Households that applied as homeless in Scotland last year, up 1% on the previous 12 months.

14,075 - Number of children assessed as homeless in 2017-18.

10,933 - Households in temporary accommodation.

6615 - Children in temporary accommodation.

4 - Consecutive years the amount of households and children in temporary accommodation has risen.

201 - Number of days families with children spend in temporary accommodation.

161 - Days spent in temporary accommodation by people without children.

8 - Percentage of Scottish population to have experienced homelessness if their life.
