STV Appeal 2015 sees almost £3m raised for children's charities
'Incredible result' sees amount raised by appeal top £11m over five years.
Almost £3m has been raised for children's charities across Scotland in this year's STV Children's Appeal.
Now in its fifth year, the 2015 appeal saw a total sum of £2,913,083 donated by STV viewers.
On Saturday morning, presenter Lorraine Kelly tweeted: "Morning all. Still on a high after last night fab @STVAppeal live show. Just think how many kids we can help with almost £3M THANK YOU!!!"
The programme, broadcast on Friday night, featured a special guest appearance from First Minister Nicola Sturgeon alongside STV presenters and newsreaders.
Ms Sturgeon said: "I'm deeply touched by the people who have donated this evening and by the hard work of those involved with the Appeal.
"We shouldn’t have children living in poverty in a modern country like Scotland and it is my personal ambition to ensure that each and every child gets the best possible start in life.
"The £8.2 million raised since the start of the STV Appeal has allowed so many excellent projects to make a real difference to people’s lives. I want that to continue. That is why I am pleased to announce that Scottish Government are once again committing to match fund public donations up to a value of £1m for next year’s appeal.”
Friday's donations bring the total amount raised by the STV Appeal since 2011 to more than £11m.
STV chief executive Rob Woodward hailed the night as "an incredible result".
He said: "It has been another incredible year for the STV Children’s Appeal thanks to individuals, local communities, corporate fundraisers and STV viewers from across the country doing what they can to raise funds for children affected by poverty in Scotland.
"The STV Children’s Appeal is committed to investing in projects in Scotland that will make a real difference to children’s lives and the £2,913,083 raised this year will go a long way in achieving this.
"On behalf of the STV Children’s Appeal we would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has donated so generously to this year’s appeal."
