Police officer investigated over criminal conduct claims
Prosecutors order probe over allegations including criminal neglect of duty.
A serving police officer is being investigated over claims of criminal conduct.
The Police Scotland officer is facing an allegation which includes "criminal neglect of duty".
Prosecutors have now ordered watchdog the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (PIRC) to carry out a probe into the claims.
Further details of the alleged offence are not yet known and a report will be sent to the Crown Office following the conclusion of PIRC's investigation.
A spokeswoman for the PIRC said: "The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) has instructed the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner to investigate an allegation of criminal conduct, including criminal neglect of duty, against an officer serving with Police Scotland.
"A report on the commissioner's findings will be submitted to the COPFS in due course."
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "As the matter has been referred by COPFS to PIRC for investigation, it would be inappropriate to comment."
